Written By Lifebook Member Laurie Gentempo My Intellectual Life was the category in which I broke through to understanding consciousness as it applies to EVERYTHING we do and as it is vital to creating everything in our lives. I wanted to master living consciously because my mind was filled with so much noise (or lack of clarity). A typical morning looked like chaos and reaction to a day of activities. My mode of operation was reacting to my commitments.  Over committing was a common theme.  There seemed to be many layers between what I truly wanted and what WAS.  This was the result of not having put clear thinking and planning into my life, or my daily habits. There were a couple of practices that I chose to create in order to turn things around.

Written by Lifebook Member Dave Hopper This is the story of how Lifebook motivated me to fulfill my life's passion. As Jon Butcher himself could tell you, I have a lot of ideas. He could also tell you that I don't take action on most of them. That is, at least until March 2009, when I attended my second Lifebook Session. I have been through Lifebook twice – once at age 20 and again at age 23. The first time I went through I came out with an overriding goal to be the best MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighter I could possibly be, and to fight in the UFC. Graduating college had become a side note. I came out of my Lifebook Session with so much motivation that I completely blew away all of my obstacles and achieved most of my goals.

Marcus was Emperor of Rome for two decades before succumbing to the plague in 180 A.D. He was the most powerful man of his day, ruling an empire that stretched from Western Europe to the Middle East and Africa. During his reign, he defended Rome against barbarians, invading tribes, pestilence and plague at every border. Yet, in those quiet moments of leisure when he was able to take off the mantle of Emperor, he also composed one of the world's great works of Stoic philosophy, known today as his 'Meditations.' The book is essentially an inner dialogue about a man's character. Marcus wrote solely for himself, not posterity. His goal was to face up to the world, define the good life, define good character and develop a manual for daily living. His words still resonate today. Here is just a sampling:

Okay, so it may be a quirky video from the 1980’s, but if you can get past the eccentric music and the fuzziness of the film it WON’T disappoint. Take this mind-altering journey to the known edge of our external and internal universe with this short film that deals with the relative size of things, and the effect of adding another zero…

Break out of your established patterns, illuminate your life with imagination, and look at your world in whole new ways. These 7 steps are sure to get your creative juices flowing!

1.  Seek Variety

"Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way." -Edward de Bono

“Variety is the spice of life.”  Shaking things up can expand your perspective, allowing you to experience things in an entirely new way.  For many people, new experiences are an ultimate source for creativity.  Fresh perspectives open your mind, leaving plenty of room for creation.  So go on… give your days some flavor.

For me, historically the thought of exercise has held about as much excitement as chewing on a piece of gum that lost its flavor an hour ago is tasty.  The fact that I get bored easily when I'm at the gym and that I love the Christmas fudge my family churns out every year - well, I was not the first to jump on board with the December challenge.

However, after reading a number of the intense committments others made, I thought I could probably trade in a few re-runs of The King of Queens (that Arthur just cracks me up) to get up off the couch.

My December challenge was a success because I achieved more than I would have without it. I did exercise more than I would have even if it wasn’t daily. I really rocked on my food choices of 75% raw vegan. I even brought a watermelon filled with fruit salad that was carved like Santa’s sleigh to Christmas with my extended family. It was as big a hit as the chocolate cream pie! I used the sauna regularly, got great sleep, got adjusted regularly and the Kangan water ionizer is being shipped as we speak. I hydroflossed daily too. I also gained from this challenge a feeling of a closer bond and support from the greater Lifebook community as momentum behind my personal goals. It was great hearing everyone’s successes… and confessions! After reading Kyle’s top 10, I was inspired to play with this poem. Hope you enjoy it!
