Marcus was Emperor of Rome for two decades before succumbing to the plague in 180 A.D. He was the most powerful man of his day, ruling an empire that stretched from Western Europe to the Middle East and Africa. During his reign, he defended Rome against barbarians, invading tribes, pestilence and plague at every border. Yet, in those quiet moments of leisure when he was able to take off the mantle of Emperor, he also composed one of the world's great works of Stoic philosophy, known today as his 'Meditations.' The book is essentially an inner dialogue about a man's character. Marcus wrote solely for himself, not posterity. His goal was to face up to the world, define the good life, define good character and develop a manual for daily living. His words still resonate today. Here is just a sampling:

Our character is the sum total of our personality traits. It's our inner nature. Character is our identity as shaped by our moral values and expressed in the principles we live by. It's who we are inside – and it determines how we live outside. Our character determines our behavior in life – and our behavior in life determines our character. At Lifebook we believe that a good character is achieved when we turn virtues into habits. Human beings are habitual animals. Habits, whether good or bad, make up who we are as people. As Aristotle said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit." You can consciouly choose the character traits you want to build into your life, but in order to successfully implement them we must break them down into habits and rythyms. Here are a few examples of powerful virtues and some of their related habits:

Lifebook could not have come at a better time for me. For six years I had been with the same organization as a Director of Human Resources. Four of those years were pretty good, but the last two were really bad. It had gotten to the point where my family my life was being affected in every way possible. I could not function anymore. I spent all my evenings and weekends dreading the next time I had to go to work. Realizing I could not continue to live this way, I made the very difficult decision of resigning in an effort to get my life back. I didn’t have another job lined up, but I didn’t care. I wanted my life back.

Lifebook LOVES high quality personality typing tools, which is why we’ve pulled together our “Top 3 All-Time Favorite Personality Resources” for you to take advantage of!
